He enlisted at Tonbridge, joining the Royal West Kent Regiment under the number TF/3672. He later transferred to the 2nd/4th Battalion of the Queen's Own Royal West Kent Regiment, by which time he held the rank of Private and carried the service number 201161.
His medal card records that he went out to a theatre of war on 1 August 1915, service recognised by the 1914/15 Star. He saw action at Gallipoli in the Dardanelles campaign. Alongside the Star he received the Victory Medal and the British War Medal.
Frank died of wounds on 16 May 1918, aged just 21. He is buried in Jerusalem War Cemetery in Israel, which was established after the city's occupation on 11 December 1917, beginning with 270 graves and later enlarged with battlefield burials brought in from smaller cemeteries nearby. Today it contains 2,515 Commonwealth burials from the First World War, 100 of them unidentified. His name is also inscribed on the Leigh War Memorial.
